Some of our website visitors may have noticed some unusual topics in our Forums lately. We’ve suffered the unwanted attentions of some spammers, mainly from China and Nigeria. The Chinese posts we’ve no idea on the subject, as we can’t read Hanzi characters, but the Nigerian material was somewhat sinister, involving cult brotherhoods.
It seems that the reasons for these are not just vandalism, but to insert links to the spammers’ websites in an attempt to fool search engines into pushing those websites higher in search results. These posts, sometimes hundreds a day, were removed as soon as possible, and we’ve put some sophisticated (and expensive) anti-spam software barriers in place to hopefully prevent their recurrence.
