Hi,
I was lucky enough to arrive in the car park and be getting out of the car just as this was passing the first time (somewhere between 12…45ish and 1.45ish i guess – ie West to East (left to right with back to visitor centre). Could i ask, did anyone else see it at that point and could anyone see if there was ringtail with it as i was sure i saw two birds…
Bearing in mind that i only saw grey with black wingtips so was unsure what id seen but thought most likely to be a Hen harrier, I ran into the visitors centre/cafe and no one there had noticed, so i popped into the Cley Spy shop – Neither of the gentlemen in there had noticed and thought i was talking about Marsh Harrier grey male and brown female….or even the kestrel that was knocking about at that point.
We wandered down to the Bishops hide and got speaking to a lovely couple from Doncaster who said that they hadn’t seen it but someone had said to them that a Montagu’s had passed. Anyway not to long after that, the male passed back across (East to West this time)- just visible out of the hide but virtually right above so again no really clear view i could only see the male at that time..
Also i visited Cley Spy (Manor Farms, Glandford) between 11.15 and 12.15 – whilst getting out of the car park at the rear, i noticed something dropping over the small copse (about 300m from the rear of Cley Spy), i originally thought Kestrel but then as it cleared the trees it dropped down to ground level in the field low to the ground flitted across then up and over the hedge. It appeared to have a reddish hue underside….. It wasnt a kestrel and i dont think it was a sparrow hawk – it didnt behave like either of those…is there any chance this could have been a Merlin?
