By one of those strange quirks of fate, I happened to stumble across the inaugural flight of the UAV survey at Salthouse this morning. The hour-long mission took off from the grazing marsh south of Gramborough Hill at 0925 hrs. and quartered the area immediately east and west of the take-off point.

I have no idea if the survey is being officially monitored for the potential disturbance to birds seeking refuge in what is one of the most highly classified protection status areas in the country but for what it's worth, I noticed that as soon as the vehicle was in the air, all the geese, mainly Greylags, rose in to the air en masse and disappeared to the west. I also noticed that the birds in a mixed gull roost of about 60 birds were not disturbed even when the vehicle was overhead but just what this single observation proves is anyone's guess.

The attached images give some idea of the size of the vehicle and in sequence are from launch to landing.
