2 Mallard (Pair blown West.), 2 Red-breasted Merganser (Zooming West.), 2 Sandwich Tern (Struggling East.), 1 Long-eared Owl (Wow! Phwoor! Undoubtably bird of the day. In off from way out. Struggling low over troughs before rising, drifting East just offshore to make landfall towards, over, North Scrape. Double thigh rubbing.), 2 Short-eared Owl (Appeared to be trying to come in but then veered West, gaining height then powerfully pushed off NW. Showed characters similar to bird recently seen around Salthouse. Second, in off from way out, stooping low over troughs to come in towards Beach Hotel but veered off when reached surf to slide-slip East and zoomed up over beach and out over Eyefield, West over Freshers. What a spectacle. ), 9 Fieldfare (In off over beach and out over Reserve.), 1 Redwing (Struggling from way out. Being blown sideways, tacking across wind. Didn’t quite make it, indecisive, dropped in to troughs just outside rolling surf. Brutal. But, no, surprise, unbelievable, great effort to get back up and fly. Made landfall, blown more like over beach, out over boats. Cheers all round. ) [Graham Fellows]
