CLEY BIRD CLUB Meetings

Winter Meeting Calendar - Winter 2020/21

Due to Covid-19 restrictions we have taken the decision to cancel all indoor meetings this winter.

THE not-so-BIG BIRD DAY 2021 CANCELLED

COVID UPDATE

Having looked at the new rules we have decided, regrettably, to cancel this event this year.

PURPOSE

To discover how many species are present in the Cley 10-km Square in January 2021.

Open to both Cley Bird Club members and non-members to provide an opportunity for people to have an enjoyable day’s birding either on their own, with family or a friend.

On last year’s Big Bird Day on 11th January, a grand total of 124 bird species was seen. Come along to help us see how well we can do this year, despite Covid 19.

DETAILS

Due to the latest Covid-19 restrictions we will not be running a Bird Race but anyone who lives in or near to the Cley Square can bird in their household bubble, on their own or with one other person and send us their sightings for the day.  We can then collate them all and see what the total is.

The CBC Recording Area comprises the 10km square TG04 (but extended in the north-west to include the tip of Blakeney Point). Any birds seen out at sea are also countable. For recording purposes it is split into various geographical locations/sites.  Click Location Map to download a map of these.

You can bird at any time of the day and for as long or short a time as you want.

As in previous years, a checklist is available below if you should wish to use one in the field.

Due to Covid19 restrictions we will not be able to get together at the end of the day for refreshments, to compare notes and collate the results. However, all taking part will be notified of the results during the following week and they will also be on the website.

INFORMATION WANTED

We would like to capture information such as numbers present in an area. Every little will help.  If you can't walk far, you can still take part by counting everything you can see from your car (please only park where it is safe to do so) or, if you live in the Square, your garden or from your window.

SUBMITTING RESULTS

Wherever possible please enter all your sightings on this website, cleybirdclub.org.uk, using the normal ‘Add a Sighting’ page. Anyone can do this – you don’t have to be a member.

You do not need to be a Cley Bird Club member but you do have to be registered on the website.
All members are registered.  If you are registered and cannot remember your Login ID (Initials) please contact cleybcmembership@gmail.com as soon as possible who will send it to you.

If you are not registered it is free and very easy to do, all we need is your name and an email address in case we need to contact you   You can do this by clicking on 'Register for this website' at the top of this page under the Login button.

Once logged on go to the Add a Sighting page either from the link on the Home Page or the menu Bird Records/Add a Sighting.

For recording purposes, the Square is split into various Locations (the coloured areas on the Site Map).  Please record within these wherever you can.  If you just wandered round the Square and didn’t note where the birds were, you can use the location ‘Cley 10Km Square’ though your records are much more use to us if they are identified to specific locations.

Full instructions can be found by clicking on the ‘How to use this page’ box at the top of the Add a Sighting page.

If you visited more than one area, please enter a new visit for each.

If you have any problems with this please contact cleybcrecords@gmail.com.

Please submit all sightings by the end of Sunday 10th.

If you cannot do this please contact us by email at cleybcrecords@gmail.com and we will find an alternative for you.

GENERAL

COVID RULES Lockdown (as at 4th January – look out for further updates),

It is against the law to meet socially with family or friends unless they are part of your household or support bubble. You can only leave your home to exercise, and not for the purpose of recreation or leisure (e.g. a picnic or a social meeting). This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.  We thinks this counts as exercise but don't stand around too long!
